Effective goals are determined by a few characteristics, which also increase the chance of achieving these goals successfully. Goals setting and employee motivation has been widely discussed in the predicament of human resource management.

According to researchers, goals can be motivating for employees to perform their tasks. Hence, it can be said that the effective goals can lead to higher employee performance. Goals can only be effective if they possess the characteristics needed. Goals setting can be learned in order to avoid ambiguity. Organizations that focus on the wellbeing of its employees and developed a strong human resource management system, provide a chance to its employees to learn about goal settings. This would not only help the individuals but the organizations benefit from it. As the mental health of the employee is a concern for organizations, these organizations usually try to implement HR programs to get more focused employees. Effective goals are also associated with the performance appraisal. As the effective goals make the employees focused, it enhances their performance and thus the performance appraisal is considered as a reward for the employees for performing for the company.
