Organizational communication is concerned with consideration, analysis and criticism of communication in organizational context. It is an important consideration for the organization because of its influential effect on both the employees and the organizations. Organizational communication depends on the pattern of interpersonal communication in the organizations. Communication could be open and close depending on the structures of the organizations. Organizational structures play an important role in this regard. Hierarchical and centralized organizational structures hinder open communication in the organizations (Greenberg, 2011).

            These organizations are governed through command control system and employees have to obey the instructions trickle down from top management. Open line of communications is not present and employees have limited opportunities to participate in decision making (pp, 561). On contrary, flexible or participative organizational structures promote dissent and employees participation in decision making. Employees have right to participate in important matter of the organization as well as policies and procedures developed by the top management. However it is not necessary that centralized structures or command and controlled systems are always bad.

            It depends on the nature of the organizations. For instance, armed forces are best govern by command and controlled system instead of participative management style. Open communication is considered better for the organizations. It facilitates innovation in the organizations. Employees are able to share new ideas, information and innovations
