Statement:

Adventure tourism is growing in recent years and large number of adventurers is visiting terrains and tourist places all over the world for novel, exciting and challenging experience. Tourism demand is expected to grow in future and adventure tourism companies are actively involved in providing adventure services. However, environmental sustainability and tourists risks are the major factors that need immediate attention to address. Majority of the adventurer tourists are unaware of environmental sustainability that could be affected by their activities in natural environment and they could be venerable to risk of casualties while expediting risky and adventuress sites. Adventure tourism companies are also operating with thin margins and limited resources because of competitive environment. Therefore, they lack focus on long term and sustainable practices to protect environmental and human protection.

            ATDI report assesses adventure tourism potential of different countries around the world. Purpose of the report is to promote practices and spread awareness for sustainable and risk free tourism practices. Report also provides policy and framework to implement sustainable environment tourism practices for the benefit of national and local economies. Data about tourism in developed and developing countries is also available that provide useful information about adventure tourism in respective countries.

            This is a review conducted on government report on safety on adventure tourism. Report indicates that data and statistics about risk encountered by adventure tourists are insufficient. Government need to reveal actual statistics. Report do not mentions injuries and he recommend that there should be single body that collects information about injuries and other risks associated with adventure tourism industry. This is an informative piece of information provided by in the review. Implementation of such practices could bring positive change in tourism industry.

Solutions and recommendations about risk management and safety in tourism and adventure industry is provided. There are gaps in safety management and implementation plan to bring positive and desired results. If remedial measures are not under taken, New Zealand reputation in the industry could be on stake. Therefore, recommendations provided in the report could change the trend in the industry. Report is very helpful in tourism industry particularly in new eland and overall for the rest of the countries.

Issues regarding resources, safety measures, policy and regulation are discussed detail. Fifteen cases are discussed. The book has adopted case study approach. Therefore, findings can be applied to both local and international organizations, which are involved in adventure tourism. Role of industry is also elaborated.
