This is an act of choosing between two or more alternatives in an organization. Primarily there are two types of decision-making.

Programmed Decision making

This decision-making contains the decisions that a manager makes as a part of his daily routine. These decisions have programmed solutions, are easy to decide, and manipulate.

Non-programmed Decisions

This decision making is of vital importance and are of critical nature as it presents the challenge of non-routine decisions and tend to be new and unconventional in nature

The Decision Making Process

  1. Recognize Need

The first task in decision-making process is to recognize the need for decision-making. This includes the area that requires attention or is in crises. This revolves around the deciding who has the authority to make that decision and who in turn is liable for decision in that particular area (Greenberg, 2011).

  1. Identify objective

The next task that tends to come in line with decision-making is to identify the objective and highlight the area that requires attention. This includes the list of objectives that are to be met when that particular decision is being made. Those objectives may revolve around survival, cost cutting or revenue optimization etc.
