Modern corporate is the product of capitalist system, which has evolved in free market economy. This contemporary corporate has been shaped by numerous organizations, which operate in a free market economy with specific purpose. Mostly this purpose is not only to generate revenues and to swell with passage of time, but sometimes it goes beyond that.

As afore said, organizations in free market economy come to existence for specific purposes. One purpose, which dominates all other purposes or makes them secondary, is profit. An organization indulge in an activity or starts a process by consuming it resources/inputs, Labor, financial capital, infrastructure and technology, to yield an output.

Every activity of an organization is precisely defined by organization’s Vision and Mission statement. This is the professional obligation of top managers to continuously evaluate and align all processes with organization’s Vision and Mission statement.

Strategic decisions, which are taken by top managers, which are always, time bound, split into tactical plans and responsibilities, when they reach middle managers. These managers are inclined to use resources, financial capital, labor, infrastructure and technology, at their disposal according to the will. However, they must always keep in perspective, when consuming these resources that all their tactical decisions should be serve the larger strategic plan.

First line managers, which supervise or head different units, use these tactical plans to materialize short-term goals, which align to serve higher or overall purpose. Operational plans may include increase in production, optimal use of certain or all resources and many such other decisions.
