Abstract

The leaders considered as the backbone for any organization as they are the think tanks of an organization. The importance of the leaders is valued in those organizations that have successfully developed new ways or methods for raising their standards.  The current research aims to identify methodologies, which helps in developing the relevant behaviours of individuals becoming leaders. The development in the personality traits of a leader involves the total transformation of individual behaviours in terms of change management and effectively implementing its strategies. The leader is termed as a symbol of driving force in times of leading its team during phases of change and leading the teams. The leaders of the organization should also develop the contemplated skills in managing a group of people. The change in an organization is the biggest factor that could either enhances the abilities of a person or diffuses such capabilities. The question in this specific research was “what are the abilities or skills needed by a leader affected by change management in an organization?”

Developing Leaders

Since the starts of human history, the word leadership always given a great importance as it is associated with the person who finds new ways, leads the nations, organizations, groups or teams towards the ways of success. Subsequently, the role of leaders can never be neglect in the business organizations as they lay the foundation of business. By the mean of their leadership traits they fed up the plant and helps it to become a firm huge tree that does not merely gives advantages to them but also give benefits to all those who are associated with it.

In this aspect, we can see the examples of great leaders who set goals, took stance and start to move towards a destination, lead people in this way succeed to make their dreams true’s. Bill Gates, the leader of World’s most famous Organization Microsoft, has made the Microsoft one of the most successful business organization of the world and transformed the globalized business from manual operations to automatics businesses. Consequently, the name of Apple’s owner Steve Jobs can never be neglected who introduced a new trend and transformed the world into a digital world and still after his death; Apple is one of the most successful organization in IT industry (Bass & Stogdill, 1990).

By bearing in mind, the importance of leaders in the success of organizations, Gary Yukl has shed some light on the increasing trend of business world and explained that in this transforming business world the role of leadership has become more important than ever before. Therefore, he emphasized the need to increase the development of leaders by considering their importance for the business and he also quoted that “leadership development remains a multibillion business in the United States”(Yukl, 2012, Pg381).

Further, he explained that there are various ways to develop leadership competencies including the development activities, formal training and self-help activities. In this aspect, for developing leaders, the formal training takes place in defined period and the training professionals who help the leaders to various leadership qualities conduct it. For example, leadership development process including the short courses or certification, and degrees of professional academic courses offer by the colleges and universities.
