In the starting of the 1960s decade, the anti-blackness and racial discrimination was at its peak and at every sector of life; the black people were targeted because of their skin color. With every passing moment, the anti-African American racist activities were increasing and civil rights were largely violated in the name of race. In this scenario, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. took his stance and preferred sit-ins and protest marches as he believed that it is the only possible way to unite black to struggle collectively for the attainment of their rights. To stop these activities, protestors were arrested including the King and sent to jail. Meanwhile he was in the jail, he wrote a historic letter to the eight African-American Clergymen who were against the freedom movement of the black people for the attainment of their civil rights(King Jr, 2012).

Martin Luther King believed that there are four ways are adopted in any nonviolent campaign including the collection of the facts to determine the existence of justice, at the second negotiation is made to ensure the existence of justice then self-purification and at the end the direct action are made. King expressed that the black people go through all the steps as we justified the existence of injustice, we tried to negotiate but when we see no response then at first black people approached self-purification and the direct action was taken as the best possible step to sort out this issue. In this aspect, the King Luther explained the direct action as the black people physically appear to record their protest against the discrimination and injustice with the African American(Susan, 1992).
