            Large number of organizational practitioners and theorists consider employee empowerment as one of the most important conceptualization in current business era. The employee empowerment means giving them resources, discretion, and distributing control for the sake of better custom dealing and interest of the organization (Boudrias, 2009). Therefore, both academicians and practitioners have great deal of effort work for employee empowerment. There are number of factors that contribute in the development of employee empowerment. For instance, role of employee participation in decision-making and feedback is important.

            These provide greater control for the employees to exert in their day-to-day tasks. Similarly, it is extremely important to provide employees with adequate set of knowledge, abilities and skill along with experience to make them more productive at work place. This development is extremely important for employee empowerment. When employees have adequate knowledge of the job and they possess relevant abilities and skills, they are in better position to perform the job with minimum supervision and control and greater customer satisfaction (Lashley, 1999).

            Therefore, organizations often emphasize on the professional development of the employees. If they are professionally developed, they will definitely demonstrate their development abilities on the job and intern, overall organizational performance will increased. Professional development could take place in number of ways. Educating employees, giving them on the job experience, improving skills and providing knowledge are some of the ways that can be utilized for employees’ professional development (Greasley & Bryman, 2005). An important issue that is being faced by the organizations regarding professional development is lack of time, flexibility in jobs and sources to develop professionally.

            It is difficult for employees to take admission in classes and to put extra time for learning and development. In a tough professional environment, time management is difficult things and often employees complain that they do not have enough time to learn new knowledge and skills for professional development. With the invention of information and communication technology, it is possible to initiate professional development programs with flexibility and employee reach. These are online professional development courses.

            Internet, video conferences, web blogging, we pages and different other means of communication have made it possible to interact online. These sources can better utilize for initiating professional development efforts to make employees empower. Although organizations are taking initiatives to implement online professional development programs, more efforts are required to implement these programs rigorously. Present study has took initiatives to address that need and intends to investigate what are the views of the employees regarding the need for online professional development programs.

            Online professional programs could take place in several forms that include but not limited to online classes, training sessions, courses as well as blogging and wikis. These sources are more flexible and in reach of employees. The can easily take admission in these programs and to learn new knowledge, skills and to develop abilities to perform the job in better ways. Therefore, present study investigates the need for online professional development programs for employee empowerment and posse following research questions.
