Questions and answers on Research design and statistics

Question 1 (a): Longitudinal research design was used in the study. Longitudinal design was used to assess the causal relationship between the mathematics achievement and mathematic participation. Nature of longitudinal research design is cross panel (gaer, Pustjens, Damme, & Munter, 2008).

(b): Research design for the study is Solomon four-group design. This group design is used with random assignment with different conditions. Reason behind was evaluation of intervention that is based on social influence and cognitive social learning theory (Kvalem, Sundet, Rivø, Eilertsen, & Bakketeig, 1996).

(c):  Pre test and posttest experimental design was used in the study. Control group scores utilized for making comparison for the effects of the treatments (Olusi, 2008).

Question 2: To ensure validity of the measures used in the study, construct and concurrent validity was taken into consideration. AMS-C 28 scale was used adopted form the literature and its construct and concurrent validity are also measured in previous research work as well (Clark & Schroth, 2010).

Question 3 (a):  Inferential analysis include test for regression analysis. Regression analysis was carried out to assess the predictive effect of intrinsic, extrinsic motivation and amotivation on personality traits (Clark & Schroth, 2010).

(b): Descriptive statistics used in the study were mean and standard deviation for personality traits and academic motivation type (Clark & Schroth, 2010).

Question 4 (a): Intrinsic motivation to know is the most endorsed academic motivation for the student. Overall F-value is highest for intrinsic motivation model as compare to rest of the models (Clark & Schroth, 2010)
