Research Loopholes: Conflict of interest

Research is a scientific and systematic method to gather and analyze evidence, for various reasons. This system is used to understand a phenomenon, an entity through the most efficient mechanism. The prime objective of any research, whether academic-corporate-scientific, is to provide such conclusions, by analyzing relevant evidence/data, which could help researcher and research community to find answers and remedies, of a subject or entity, being researched. Most of the times, research in a certain field, not only facilitate research community of that field, but also help researches, of related fields, in array of ways. However, for a research to be credible and relevant, it must be free of any bias and researcher has to ensure that no personal bias (conflict of interest) will influence the findings of research.

In capitalist economies, where large corporations have the opulence to lobby, scientific and research community are exploited to promote corporate interests.  In the recent years, it has been observed and reported, large corporations have exploited research community to produce such research findings, which benefit their corporate products and services. The gathered data was bias and evidently supported such conclusions, which monetarily benefited companies or firms.

In the video (CBS, 2005), it has been reported that not only large corporations are involved in such unethical corporate practices, but also government allow such malpractices, because legal contradictions or lacunas.  The legal contradictions are so grave that instead of halting/deterring such malpractices, it promotes them.
